Our story

Our mission is to provide a safe and enriching environment for your dog to play and explore in a pack setting. Group harmony and safety are our highest priorities.

Doggy Day Care was founded in April 2011 by Hanne Larsen. She dreamt of a work day with long walks in forests and fields, surrounded by happy, playing dogs. Hanne quickly reached full-time capacity and Lisa Kolnes joined just four months later.

We continued to grow as loyal customers eagerly spread word within the dog community, and local media spotlighted us as the first and largest dog daycare in the area. We welcomed Lena Kaltveit to the pack in the spring of 2012.

Twelve years later, the time we spend with the dogs each day continues to fuel our passion for what we do. Whether helping shy dogs find their voice and place in the pack, or encouraging outgoing dogs to explore freely with their best friends, our greatest happiness is nurturing each dog to its fullest potential.

At Doggy Day Care, it is their world and their communication leads the way. They get to behave in the dog way. We see a very different side of them, and their potential.

We love sending the dogs home feeling calm from positive stimulation. They run and play in a beautiful outdoor environment, enjoy social interactions with their friends, and use their brains when we play search games with them.

I love getting to know the dogs. Some are afraid and shy when they start. But once they are off-leash, they feel more safe. My favorite part is seeing shy dogs gain confidence and lose their fear. They find their voice and their place, and whenever they need it, they come to us for safety and comfort.

It is very rewarding when owners say their dog is calmer at home and on walks. They see improvement in communication with other dogs, and growth in their emotional intelligence and social skills.

The dogs of course run, play, and explore, but they also relax together. They choose what they feel like doing. In the last half an hour, especially in the summer, they often nap as a pack. It is really special to see them so relaxed and comfortable together.

They get to enjoy a different setting than they have in daily life. They have a big space to play and explore freely, in a pack with other safe dogs that they know well and trust.
